My Contribution to Nepal’s Entertainment: Stand-Up Comedy and Creative Shows

By December 10, 2025

The entertainment scene in Nepal has evolved quickly. New formats, new creators, and new platforms are shaping how people watch, enjoy, and connect with content. Throughout my journey, I’ve been involved in projects that opened space for creativity, honest storytelling, humor, and fresh ideas for Nepali audiences.

Shows like Comedy Circle, Chill Pill, Bear the Dare, Verside TV, Comedy Cafe, and The Last Question each brought something new to the table. They helped build a growing culture of stand-up comedy, podcasting, challenge-based shows, and meaningful conversations.

This blog shares my contributions to these projects and the intention behind them.

1. Verside TV – A Creative Space for Shows, Games, and Visual Projects

Verside TV has been one of the most experimental and exciting platforms I’ve been part of. The idea behind it was simple: create a home for fresh digital content games, shows, photos, and fun challenges all designed for Nepali audiences.

Under Verside TV, we worked on multiple formats:

• Jugaad – A Fun Guessing Game Show

A game where participants guess songs, movies, or pop-culture references. Wrong answers lead to funny punishments that make the show exciting and unpredictable.
I was involved in both the creative process and also appeared in the show.

• Mad Jokes – A Joke Battle With a Twist

“Mad Jokes” is one of our lighthearted concepts a face-off of cheesy, pun-filled jokes. Two players challenge each other, trying to keep a straight face.
The rule is simple:
If you laugh, you take a shot. The opponent gets a point.

It created a very casual yet hilarious energy, making it one of the most entertaining formats produced under Verside TV.

Portraits Mag – A Space for Clean and Creative Portrait Photography

Portraits Mag is a visual project under Verside that focuses on high-quality portraits of models capturing style, expression, and personality. The aim was to create a platform where models and creators could showcase themselves through clean photography and simple visual storytelling.

It reflects the calm, artistic, and aesthetic side of Verside.

It’s a Match – A Show About Chemistry and Connection

“It’s a Match” explores relationships and compatibility. The show pairs two people sometimes real, sometimes staged to see how well they match emotionally, socially, and through simple interactions.

The concept was to capture natural reactions, awkward moments, and genuine conversations between people meeting for the first time.

Verside TV became a place where we could experiment without limits from games to photography to social-interaction shows all created with a Nepali audience in mind.

2. Comedy Circle – Nepal’s First Organized Stand-Up Comedy Platform

Being part of the foundation of Comedy Circle is one of the highlights of my creative journey. Before Comedy Circle, Nepal didn’t have a proper home for stand-up comedy. Most comedy was limited to scripted TV shows or character-based performances. It was Nepal’s first organized stand-up comedy platform built for YouTube, long before stand-up became mainstream.

Comedy Circle created a dedicated stage where comedians could perform real stand-up, try new material, and connect directly with the audience. It introduced the idea of open mics, weekly shows, and a space built only for comedy.

3. Comedy Cafe – Built for Event-Focused Stand-Up Shows

After Comedy Circle, Suraj launched Comedy Cafe on his own after a few years’ gap this time with a clear mission: to create more event-focused spaces for stand-up comedy in Nepal.

While Comedy Circle grew as a digital and community-driven platform, Comedy Cafe focused on the live event side organizing shows, giving comedians regular stage time, and making stand-up comedy more accessible and visible to the public.

My role was to support the growth of the comedy ecosystem by ensuring performers had multiple stages and opportunities to refine their craft. Comedy Cafe helped expand that ecosystem, providing a dedicated space where stand-up could thrive through consistent, well-structured events.

Milestones Built Through Comedy Circle & Comedy Cafe

  • Weekly open mic events
  • Main events and special shows
  • National comedy tours
  • Online and media coverages
  • Charity events
  • International events through online (During covid)
  • Casting calls for new comedians
  • Episodes trending at #1 on YouTube

Starting the platform from scratch was not easy, but it was worth it. Many comedians began their journey here, and seeing that growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of my contribution.

4. Chill Pill – Nepal’s First Comedy Podcast

Chill Pill, hosted by Kshitiz KC and Utsav Sapkota is widely known as Nepal’s first-ever comedy podcast a relaxed, entertaining talk-show where hosts chat with artists, comedians, and guests about life, events, and behind-the-scenes stories.

What made Chill Pill special was its unscripted, natural flow. Conversations were free, funny, and refreshingly honest the kind of laid-back banter that felt like two friends sharing jokes and thoughts without any filters.

My contribution was creating the right environment and structure so the hosts and guests could speak openly and comfortably. The goal was always simplicity: let real personalities shine, keep the vibe light, and allow humor to happen naturally.

5. Bear The Dare – A Challenge Show Full of Surprises

“Bear the Dare,” created and hosted by Sajan Shrestha, brought a fresh wave of interactive entertainment. Participants receive dares funny, awkward, or sometimes bold and must complete them or face consequences.

My contribution was supporting the show’s creative tone and helping maintain its fun, youthful energy.

Because many of the dares come from the audience, the show feels personal and unpredictable which made it a favorite among younger viewers.

6. The Last Question – A Simple and Meaningful Talk Show

“The Last Question,” hosted by Sajan Shrestha, is a podcast built around simple, meaningful, and honest conversations. The show brings together celebrities, creators, and public figures who share personal stories and unfiltered thoughts in a calm, inviting environment. I contributed by designing the set and supporting various parts of the production to ensure the space felt open and comfortable for genuine dialogue. The strength of the show lies in its simplicity, its honest and relatable conversations, and the depth of storytelling it offers proving that Nepali audiences value heartfelt discussions just as much as entertainment.

My Vision and Creative Approach

Across all these platforms and shows, my vision has always centered on developing ideas that feel simple, real, and accessible. I focus on creating space for Nepali creators, building platforms where new talent can shine, and supporting growing art forms like stand-up comedy and podcasts. Whether it’s comedy, photography, conversation-based shows, or game formats, my intention is to produce content that audiences can enjoy without overthinking content that feels relatable, honest, and true to the Nepali creative spirit.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Nepali Entertainment

Nepal’s creative landscape is expanding fast. New comedians, podcasters, storytellers, and digital creators are entering the scene every day. With the right guidance, platforms, and teamwork, Nepal can grow even stronger in the entertainment world.

The projects mentioned above are only the beginning. There is still so much more to build, explore, and improve. I am excited to continue contributing, supporting new voices, and helping shape the next stage of Nepali entertainment.
